World Series of Poker 2008

Members of Team PokerStars Pro have had much success at the World Series. In total, they have won 17 bracelets, made it to over fifty final tables and earned millions of dollars in prize money.

Here is a roll-call of Team PokerStars Pro’s greatest World Series successes.

2007

Tuan LamThe final table of the Main Event was dominated by members of Team PokerStars Pro. Hevad Khan finished in 6th place, earning $956,243.Raymond Rahme and Tuan Lam made it to the final three. Rahme went out in 3rd, winning prize money of $3,048,025. Tuan went one better, finishing as runner up and earning a phenomenal $4,840,981.

In the preliminary events, there was a bracelet win for Katja Thater after she beat a tough field in the $1,500 Razz event, taking home $132,653. Greg Raymer reached the final table in the $2,000 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo and $1,500 Seven Card Stud events, for a total of $61,140. Barry Greenstein came 4th in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud event and also appeared at the final table of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, cashing for $259,296. Daniel Negreanu almost won his 4th and 5th bracelets, making top 5 finishes in the $2,000 Seven Card Stud and $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Shootout events. There were also final table appearances for Humberto Brenes, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier, Steve Paul-Ambrose and Victor Ramdin.

2006

Bill ChenIn what proved to be the largest field ever witnessed at the World Series, there was lots of success for Team PokerStars Pro. Bill Chen won bracelets in the $2,500 Shorthanded No Limit Hold’em and $3,000 Limit Hold’em events. Joe Hachem came close to winning his second and third titles, finishing 2nd and 4th in the $2,500 Shorthanded Hold’em and $2,500 Pot Limit Hold’em events. In other events, there were final table appearances and major cash finishes for Barry Greenstein, Greg Raymer, Isabelle Mercier, Humberto Brenes,and Daniel Negreanu. In the $5,000 Shorthanded Hold'em event Vanessa Rousso became the youngest women ever to reach a final table, eventually finishing 8th.

2005

Greg RaymerHaving won the Main Event the previous year,Greg Raymercame close to doing the double, eventually finishing in 25th. Thanks to a huge field, this was good enough for a cash of $304,680. Joe Hachem was the man who would emerge as the new Champion, winning a massive $7,500,000 after days of intense action.

In other events, Barry Greenstein won his second bracelet in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha tournament, cashing for $128,505. Noah Boeken and John Duthie also appeared at final tables, both finishing 9th in the $2,500 Limit Hold’em and $3,000 No Limit Hold’em events.

2004

Barry GreensteinThe 2004 Main Event saw victory for the second year in a row for a PokerStars satellite qualifier. Greg Raymer beat a field of 2,576 to win the coveted Championship bracelet and prize money of $5,000,000.

Barry Greenstein and Daniel Negreanu. also won bracelets. Barry claimed victory in the $5,000 No Limit 2-7 Draw event, while Daniel won the $2,000 Limit Hold’em event. Both players also finished in the top three of other events.


2003

Chris MoneymakerChris Moneymaker rewrote the Main Event history book in 2003. After winning his seat via a $39 PokerStars satellite tournament, Chris went on to win the event, marking the first time an amateur player had ever taken the title. The victory earned Chris $2,500,000 and also helped kick-start the online poker revolution.

Elsewhere, Daniel Negreanu took down the $2,000 S.H.O.E event to earn his second bracelet, earning an impressive $100,440. He then finished 2nd in the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em event, winning $210,980. There was also a final table appearance for Humberto Brenes in the $2,000 Pot Limit Omaha event.

2002

The 2002 World Series included final table finishes for Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, and Humberto Brenes. Barry came 2nd in the $3,000 Limit Hold’em event, taking away $43,700. Daniel also earned a 2nd place finish, in the $5,000 Omaha Hi/Lo event, cashing for $85,400. Humberto almost won a 3rd bracelet in the $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha event, eventually finishing 4th for $33,020.

There have also been bracelet wins for Team PokerStars Pro prior to 2002. Daniel Negreanu became the youngest ever player at the time to win a title, after taking down the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold’em tournament in 1998. Humberto Brenes won two bracelets in 1993, in the $2,500 Limit Hold’em and $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha events, earning a total of $277,000. It’s Tom McEvoy. that has the most impressive record however. He’s won a total of four bracelets over the years, including the Main Event in 1983.
