Tom McEvoy
World Series of Poker Winner and Author
Though most people think of the more recent World Series of Poker champions when they think of Team PokerStars Pro members, Tom McEvoy is also a WSOP champion and a member of the PokerStars team. He started playing poker with his grandmother at a young age for pennies, where he often lost. He used these early lessons to improve and become one of the most successful and well-known poker players in the game today. Something that not many fans know, he was working a full-time job as an accountant, but was fired in his thirties. He was tired of working for someone else so he decided to start playing poker professionally in 1979. It has worked out well for him, as he has won numerous poker titles and authored over ten top selling poker books.
As an author, most poker players who have had any success have read at least one of Tom's books. His titles include Championship No-Limit and Pot-Limit Hold 'em (with TJ Cloutier),How to Win at Poker Tournaments, Championship Stud (with Max Stern and Linda Johnson), Championship Hold 'em (with TJ Cloutier) and Championship Omaha (with TJ Cloutier).
McEvoy is a master tournament poker player, winning his first World Series of Poker bracelet just four years after turning pro. That was in 1983, winning the limit Texas holdem event. Just a few days later he conquered the field in the $10,000 main event for his second bracelet. He has also won a bracelet in the Razz event at the 1986 World Series and in 1992 in the limit Omaha event. Tom has almost twenty in-the-money finishes in total at the World Series of Poker in his career.
Outside of poker, McEvoy has many varied interests, including reading Stephen King books, stamp collecting, fine dining, movies and backgammon.
Since joining Team PokerStars, Tom has competed in many large tournaments representing our poker room. With a reputation as a great poker player and a player with strong integrity, PokerStars is proud to have him as a member of the team. He plays on PokerStars under Tom McEvoy.
