Team PokerStars Pro - Katja Thater

Katja Thater
Katja Thater was thrust into the world of poker in 1999, when she unexpectedly stepped into a high-stakes pot-limit game for her husband while he went to the bathroom (he is also a professional poker player). She had never played before and without having any real knowledge of what to do, made the right plays and won her first pot. The rest is history.
Katja caught the poker bug, and has continued to be an avid player ever since. She turned professional in 2005, initially as a cash-game player, with great success in her home city of Hamburg. Katja, and her husband Jan, then started attending tournaments, but only to take part in the side action. Two years ago she finally began to play in Europe's big tournaments and has since established herself as a well known, top-ranking female player.
With her natural poker talent, Katja came in second in the major UK tournament, the Poker Nations Cup in Cardiff, and hit the bubble five times in a row at the WPO circuit event in Tunica, Mississippi in 2005. In recognition of her achievements in Tunica she was appointed the "unofficial Bubble-Girl" of the tour. She cashed twice at the 2006 WSOP in a pot limit hold ‘em event and in a seven card stud event. In March of 2007, Katja finished 5th in the EPT Warsaw event. This 5th place finish paid the equivalent of around $85,000.
Katja also made 2 final tables in one week at the WSOP 2007. In the $1,000 NLHE she finished 5th and in the $1,500 Razz event Katja won her first bracelet defeating a field of more than 350 players to take down that all-important first WSOP win.
Appearances on a variety of TV channels such as DSF, NDR and RTL, makes Katja the best known female poker player in Germany. When Katja isn't playing poker, she is a professional horse breeder and competes in dressage tournaments.
Katja is a proud member of Team PokerStars Pro since 2006 and can be found playing at PokerStars under the name 'Katja Thater'.
