Before Canadian poker pro Jonathan Duhamel was crowned World Series of Poker* champion, he was a student of Administration Finance. Jonathan worked hard on his poker game and practiced every day with his friends while balancing his job simultaneously. Soon enough, poker became a full time interest and he was ready to pursue it as a career. At that point, no one ever could have imagined that he would find the amount of success he has.

Jonathan mainly focused on playing cash games, but he managed to put up a few modest results on the tournament trail before making a deep run at a 2008 European Poker Tour (EPT) event in Prague. He just missed the final table but impressively finished in 10th place for $54,904. He then returned with a bang at the 2010 WSOP* in Las Vegas. Before the Main Event even began, Jonathan’s results that year were solid. He first cashed in a $1,500 No Limit shorthanded event, and then went on to place 15th in a $2,500 No Limit tournament.
With $43,000 in winnings already under his belt that summer, Jonathan joined 7,318 other runners in the prestigious Main Event in search of the massive first place prize money. After many intense days of grueling action, defeating some of poker’s top pros along the way, Jonathan found himself as chip leader when the final table was reached. When the players returned to Las Vegas that November, Jonathan suffered a few setbacks during final table play but continuously recovered and eventually emerged as the one of the youngest world champions of all time, and the first Canadian ever to win the Main Event. In addition to worldwide recognition and the gold bracelet, Jonathan pocketed a whopping $8,944,310 - one of the largest poker payouts in history.
Since his massive win, Jonathan has decided to focus more on playing tournaments and less on cash games, a decision that has led to even more success including a win at the 2011 EPT Deauville €10,000 buy-in High Roller event which was good for $279,694. Just one month later, Jonathan took on some of poker’s most respected pros at the National Heads-Up Poker Championship, where he finished in 4th place for $125,000. On to 2012, where he had an incredible run at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA). First came a 4th place finish in the $100,000 Super High Roller, followed by a win in a $5,000 8-Max event and a runner-up spot in the $25,000 High Roller. It was a set of results that added over $1,200,000 to Jonathan’s bankroll, proving once again that he is destined to be a player known for more than just winning the World Series.
Off the felt, Jonathan enjoys listening to music and playing hockey, which he considers to be his true passion. He even donated a portion of his WSOP* winnings to a charity supported by the Montreal Canadiens, his favorite hockey team.
