Team PokerStars Pro - Greg Raymer

Greg Raymer
Greg Raymer is a player who truly needs no introduction. One of the most recognisable faces in poker, Greg routed the field in one of the most dominating performances in the history of the Main Event of the World Series of Poker. The next year he turned in another impressive performance. He got deep in the tournament, in an amazing bid for a repeat victory, in what would have been an incredible feat, given the huge numbers in the modern era of the World Series Main event. He was finally eliminated in 25th place by a gut wrenching bad beat.
Greg is a great all around player who plays all games well. He has several other respectable finishes in World Series of Poker events including a final table in No Limit 2-7 Draw, and a 12th place in Omaha Eight or Better. More than just a tournament player, Greg honed his skills playing both live at Foxwoods and online at PokerStars. He prefers mixed games, particularly ones that include High-Low Split games, which are his favourites. These days he can regularly be found playing Omaha Eight or Better games on PokerStars, where you can take him on. Look for his screen name "Fossilman".
Before finding fame and fortune as a professional poker player, Greg worked as a patent attorney in his home state of Connecticut. After taking down the 2004 Main Event he left the world of law behind to take on the worlds best poker players anywhere a large buy-in event is being held. Greg is married with one daughter.
Greg got his nickname "Fossilman" because he collects fossils, which he uses to protect his cards. When he was first starting out in poker he would occasionally sell his fossils to other players to supplement his bankroll.
Like Chris Moneymaker before him, Greg won his entry into the World Series of Poker Main Event through a $160 Double Shoot-out tournament at PokerStars. He parlayed that win into a $5 million dollar payday and on route won over legions of fans who appreciate his good humour and fun and easy going manner. Don't be fooled however by his easygoing personality, Greg is a fierce competitor, who just happens to be a really nice guy. It would also be a mistake to conclude from his aggressive and occasionally reckless seeming play that Greg is anything less than an expert tactician at the poker tables. Greg is well versed in both the mathematics and advanced concepts involved in poker. When he finishes his much-anticipated book, we will all hopefully get an insight into what makes him such a dominating player.
Team PokerStars Pro is proud to have 2004 World Champion Greg Raymer as a member.
