Gavin Griffin
Originally born in Illinois, Gavin Griffin had plans of playing professional baseball and was even offered a scholarship deal. He decided to study Speech Pathology instead, and it was while at university that he first learned to play poker.
Gavin travelled to Las Vegas for the first time in 2004 and won a bracelet at the WSOP*. To win a World Series event at the first time of asking was impressive enough, but it also meant that Gavin had set a new record for being the youngest ever player at the time to win a bracelet.
His biggest win so far came in 2007, at the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Season 3 Monte Carlo Grand Final. After qualifying via a PokerStars satellite, Gavin won the event, taking home over $2,000,000. In January 2008, Gavin made history once again by winning the WPT Borgata Winter Open. The victory meant he had become the first player to win the coveted ‘triple crown’, with a World Series bracelet, an EPT and a WPT title. His total live tournament earnings currently stand at more than $4,000,000.
When he isn’t playing poker, Gavin helps raise money for breast cancer charities, with his girlfriend, who beat the disease herself. PokerStars has also made donations to some of the charities Gavin is involved with. He also enjoys watching DVDs and relaxing with his pets.
With a strong track record for winning major tournaments, Gavin Griffin looks destined to become one of the game’s greatest players. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘GavinGriffin’.
