Eugene Katchalov

Eugene Katchalov

Professional poker player Eugene Katchalov was born in Ukraine but mostly grew up in the United States after his family moved to Brooklyn. He majored in Finance and International Business at NYU and started playing poker as a hobby after graduation. Although he originally became a trader on the stock market, Eugene gave up his career to become a pro poker player in 2003.

Eugene has also become a regular winner on the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT), where he finished 3rd in the London High Roller event in Season 6 for $307,247, and 3rd again in Season 8’s Barcelona event for $453,812. He has also found success in mixed cash games and online tournaments on PokerStars, where he won $170,000 in the 2009 Heads-Up event of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP).

In early 2011, Eugene collected another massive score at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, where he took down the inaugural $100,000 buy in Super High Roller tournament for a $1,500,000 win after beating Daniel Negreanu in heads-up play. Eugene continued to impress at the PCA and went on to cash twice more while there; once in the Main Event for $28,000 and again when he took 2nd in a shorthanded No Limit Hold’em High Roller event for $131,920. Later in 2011, he added his first World Series bracelet to his list of achievements, taking victory in a $1,500 Seven Card Stud event for $122,909. His success was later recognized by being voted 2011 Bluff Player of the Year.

With several million dollars in tournament winnings under his belt, Eugene has earned his place in history as one of poker’s top earners. He is proud to be a Team PokerStars Pro member, and currently resides in Kiev, where he can be found playing online under the name ‘E. Katchalov’.
