Season 1 of the Brasil Poker Tour is now in the books, following a win at the Grand Final Carnival Poker Festival for Brazilian player Ariel Celestino, who collected the title and R$140,330 in cash. It was a spectacular finale to a hugely successful first season, with 288 players combining to create a big prize pool of R$576,000, and the top 40 players getting paid. Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder went deep to finish in 10th, and Team SportStar Walter Salles also cashed.
The opening event of the BPT was hosted in São Paulo and the new tour’s first champion was Rolf Andersen, who beat Sanyo Capobiango in the tense heads-up finale to take home R$170,500 in prize money. The stunning location of Florianópolis played host to the second event, where Jorge Breda took the winner’s slice of the R$409,304 prize pool. After leading the event for long periods, he made his big stack pay and claimed the title.
