PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2008

2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure won by Team PokerStars Pro member Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier Wins 2008 PokerStars Caribbean AdventureAfter five days of intense action, the 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure ended in victory for Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier. It was a tough field, with many seasoned pros and familiar faces. ElkY started the final table second in chips and was able to put pressure on his opponents, knocking out a total of five players, including Day Five starting chip leader David ‘The Dragon’ Pham.

By the time play got to heads-up, between ElkY and California-based internet pro Hafiz Khan, both had similar sized stacks but the action was all over in a few hands. Kahn attempted a stone-cold bluff, pushing all-in with 9-3 off-suit and was called by ElkY, who has him dominated with pocket eights. The hand held up and the Team PokerStars Pro member was crowned the 2008 PCA Champion. ElkY took home the first place prize money of $2,000,000, making this by far the biggest cash in the 26-year old Frenchman’s career. Khan walked away with $1,094,976 for his second place finish.

A total of 1,136 players entered the event, most of which qualified on PokerStars. This made it one of the largest ever fields outside of the US and generated a massive prize pool of $8,594,976. The location for the tournament was the luxurious Atlantis Resort and Casino, the perfect place for players to relax after some intense but entertaining poker.

2007 PCA

The 2007 event was won by Ryan Daut, who beat 937 other players to get heads-up with Isaac Haxton. Daut managed to grind down Haxton’s 3-1 chip lead in an epic confrontation, eventually getting all the chips in the middle holding A-10. This was good enough to hold up against Haxton’s Q-8, and he was rewarded with the $1,535,255 first prize. Not bad for a day out at the beach.
